Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work on the procurement and disposal of Wiltshire's Fleet, looking at computer software and planning a programme of replacement. I create the specifications for the vehicles, and also complete reports on the fleet.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The most recent apprenticeship that I'm doing has been the most challenging apprenticeship so far, but the biggest challenge has been trying to balance the work balance to apprenticeship work, and the support from the provider of the apprenticeship I felt could have been better.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I've developed existing skills in Excel, and using PowerBI to develop new skills especially in reporting, and seeing the trends in data.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is quite well structured, and there is plenty of learning sessions but I do feel that they should have scheduled in some breaks in the programme. With it so tight, it makes it really challenging to take annual leave or other work that has to be done.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

The employer has been excellent during the apprenticeship, and has done a good job in listening to feedback, trying to help us get the most out of the programme.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provider has been quite mixed in terms of the support. I've had quite a few different coaches during the 1 year, but I've had the same teacher (which are different people). The course itself has been setup quite well but the change of coaches makes it quite difficult.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel the new skills in the role will help develop my knowledge for during the course, but long term I'm not sure how I can use these skills in my everyday role.

Why?

Wiltshire Council is a fantastic place to work, with several opportunities for development. This is my third apprenticeship with Wiltshire Council, and every time they have offered me the most development opportunities. The support with the apprenticeships has been fantastic, and makes a challenging course enjoyable.
