Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As a technician apprentice you will be based at the Academy of Skills and Knowledge (ASK) and will learn the fundamental skills and knowledge required to become a technician. Prior to the first year, apprentices are then sent into placements in various engineering departments where they will learn essential skills needed to be a part of a dynamic workforce.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The programme has enabled me to develop the required skills and knowledge needed for my professional exit role. I have also enhanced various behaviours such as collaboration and communication through activities within my placement and training in the ASK.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a variety of technical skills on a multitude of software packages. I have also developed personal behaviours and attitudes such as problem solving and leadership qualities.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The apprenticeship scheme is well organised and I am informed of any changes made.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
A range of support was provided from my employer throughout the first year. I had frequent drop in sessions with skills coaches to aid my personal development.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I am allocated a skills coach which provides frequent support if required.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification has enabled me to develop the necessary skills and knowledge needed for my placement roles.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Frequent networking events are held within the business. For first year apprentices, an outward bound is held where they can liaise with other apprentices and develop essential behaviours.
