Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
I am a Degree Apprentice within SAP, working in the Technical Solutions and Enterprise Architecture team as part of the Customer Service and Delivery function. My role focuses on supporting enterprise-level solution design, contributing to customer engagements, and developing my understanding of SAP’s technology landscape.
On a day-to-day basis, I work with internal teams and stakeholders to support ongoing projects and customer accounts, including exposure to enterprise clients such as AstraZeneca. This involves attending meetings, contributing to discussions, and gaining insight into how large-scale SAP solutions are designed and delivered in real business environments.
I also spend time developing technical and business knowledge, particularly around SAP technologies such as Business Technology Platform (BTP) and emerging areas like AI and data-driven solutions. This includes attending onboarding sessions, shadowing colleagues, and participating in collaborative activities to build practical understanding.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I enjoy my programme to a great extent, as it provides a strong balance between academic learning and real-world application. The combination of university study and hands-on experience at SAP allows me to apply theoretical concepts directly within a professional environment, which significantly enhances my understanding.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Yes, I have developed a wide range of both new and existing skills throughout the programme.
From a technical perspective, I have strengthened my ability to work with data using Python and tools such as pandas, including data cleaning, transformation, and preparation for analysis. I have also developed front-end skills using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to build interactive dashboards, as well as experience with version control using Git and GitHub, and deploying applications to cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure.
In addition, I have gained exposure to enterprise technologies and architectures within SAP, particularly around areas such as cloud platforms, data solutions, and emerging technologies like AI. This has helped me build a broader understanding of how technical solutions are applied in real business environments.
Alongside technical skills, I have significantly developed my professional skills. These include communication and stakeholder engagement through attending meetings and collaborating with team members, as well as organisation and time management by balancing university deadlines with work responsibilities. I have also improved my problem-solving skills by troubleshooting technical issues during development and deployment.
Overall, the programme has enabled me to build a strong combination of technical and professional skills, while also continuously developing my ability to apply them in a practical, real-world context.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
Yes, the programme is very well structured, with a clear balance between academic learning and workplace experience. The modules are logically organised with defined objectives and deadlines, while my role at SAP provides practical application of these concepts. This structure makes it easier to stay organised, understand expectations, and progressively develop both technical and professional skills.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
I receive a high level of support from my employer, SAP. This includes regular guidance from team members and mentors, opportunities to attend meetings and shadow experienced colleagues, and access to learning resources and training. I am also supported in balancing work and academic commitments, with flexibility around deadlines when needed. Overall, the support provided enables me to develop both my technical and professional skills in a structured and supportive environment.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
I receive a good level of support from my training provider throughout my programme. Tutors provide clear guidance on assignments, expectations, and marking criteria, which helps me understand how to achieve high standards. There is also regular communication through lectures, feedback sessions, and check-ins, allowing me to ask questions and clarify any uncertainties. Additionally, the resources provided, such as learning materials and examples, support my independent study. Overall, the support is consistent and helps me stay on track with my academic progress.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
My qualification supports my role to a great extent, as it provides the theoretical knowledge that underpins the practical work I carry out at SAP. Concepts from modules such as data analysis, software development, and project management can be directly applied to real tasks, improving both the quality and structure of my work.
For example, learning about Agile methodologies and data handling techniques has helped me approach projects in a more organised and efficient way, particularly when working on data-driven tasks and collaborative activities. It also strengthens my understanding of enterprise technologies and best practices, allowing me to contribute more effectively in meetings and team discussions.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
Yes, there are a range of extra-curricular activities available. At SAP, there are regular networking events where I’ve had the opportunity to meet professionals from a variety of organisations, including other large companies, which is valuable for building connections and gaining industry insight.
There are also social and development-focused activities such as a padel club and a Toastmasters club, which support both wellbeing and the development of communication and public speaking skills. Overall, these activities provide a good balance of social, professional, and personal development opportunities alongside day-to-day work.
