Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Overview of my role is working in the Utilities department. We maintain of all the water, gas and electrical systems on site
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I am really enjoying this apprenticeship as every day is different and working mechanically on all different equipment across the site to either maintain, install or remove.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed fault finding and problem solving skills. By diagnosing issues with mechanical and electrical systems i have learned how to identify faults, carry out repairs and test systems to make sure they function correctly. I have learned how to carry out risk assessments, following safe systems of work and comply with industry regulations to ensure the safety of myself and others.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My apprenticeship at GSK is very structured with 4 days a week in work and 1 college day (Mon-Fri).
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot support from my employers. I am lucky to have a line manager on site to ask any queries or concerns as well as external support from the GSK early talent careers team.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive a great deal of support
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

There a many correlations between what i learn at college and work as well as differences. Some skills i have learned at college and some from work. Having a wider skill set definitely is making me more confident in ability through jobs at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

GSK have a Padel group in which colleagues meet for a sports social. I have been lucky enough to take part in GSK unlocked which is mentor students from lower income backgrounds that have a studying/ have a strong interest in the pharmaceutical industry.
