Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Full time college, mainly theory in the classroom, workshop two days a week
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
The college was very disorganised at the start, many lessons did not have tutors. The new tutors are very good and the experience has improved.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I am already used to workshop work from past jobs but I have developed lot of knowledge about pipe systems and fabrication skills in the workshop.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
The program has not been well organised. For many lessons we did not have tutors. BAE have since hired new tutors and they are great. We do not have enough information about timescale of our course or tasks that need completing. Because of this it has been impossible to plan our year out of work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
The BAE tutors are very good
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
New tutors know what they are talking about, it is a shame we did not have them from the start.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The engineering lessons help me perform better in my pipe fab role, there are lessons like behaviours that do not have anything to do with pipe fabrication but do help develop public speaking skills.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There is the student council but other than that I do not know of any extra curricular activities.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have not had the best experience with Furness college but I believe when I get into the workplace it will improve and be a great career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
The college is very unorganised so be prepared
