Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Day to day the job varies, depending on what area of the audit you may be doing. Some days it will be largely desk based, performing testing, for example a simple area for trainees is payroll testing. However, some days you may be visiting a client site or getting involved in wider office activities.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I love my job - great work/life balance, with an excellent course for learning and becoming qualified.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes - skills vary from analysis skills to communication skills. Working in a mixed age, diverse environment, with multiple organisations and performing different areas of the audit or our value for money studies develop both workplace but also real life skills. Just to list a few: excel/IT skills, communication, analysis, judgement etc.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Very well organised, with a wall planner provided for usually at least the next 12 months, allowing you to plan life ahead. We have a clearly defined structure, of working hours and studying days etc.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Have an excellent Professional training team, who provide all study and exam related support, an outstanding L&D team, who provide support of applying knowledge in the workplace, and all NAO related training. We also have an excellent HR team/dignity at work leads/mental health first aiders/coaches, who can provide all sorts of well being support if anyone should require this.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Ample support, ranging from plenty study days/hours, an excellent college provider and support with booking exams and managing time.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel it compliments the role directly.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are loads of activities, from LGBT network, to the sports network, to the mothers network. There are groups for people with all different types of interests/beliefs, along with ad hoc events to get involved with like the annual film quiz, or christmas parties etc.

Why?
Excellent support through a difficult qualification, gaining experience which you won't gain in other organisations, due to the niche area of audit we work on (government). We have a great work life balance, complimented by good pay and pension benefits - everyone comes to work for money!! There are many opportunities once qualified too, whether that's additional qualifications, secondment opportunities, or just an excellent place to put on CV.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to National Audit Office?
Relax - the employer will support you through the onboarding process and getting settled in.
