I support the delivery of independent audits that examine how effectively public money is spent. My role involves working with audit teams to gather and analyse evidence, review financial data to support audit conclusions. I contribute to planning and fieldwork, document findings clearly, and communicate with audited bodies as needed. Alongside practical audit work, I study towards a professional qualification, developing my technical accounting knowledge, analytical skills, and understanding of public sector governance and value‑for‑money principles.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my apprenticeship at the NAO as it gives me the opportunity to learn while doing meaningful, real‑world work. I like applying my studies to live audits, developing practical skills, and gaining insight into how public money is managed. Working alongside experienced colleagues has helped me build confidence and grow both professionally and personally.
