I support the practice through the preparation of architectural drawings, day‑to‑day contract administration, and attending occasional site meetings to monitor progress and resolve issues. Alongside my professional responsibilities, I also spend one day each week at university, balancing academic development with practical experience.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I am enjoying my programme as I move through the years. The growing responsibilities is very rewarding and seeing the progress both in practice and at university is encouraging.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Over the past period I’ve continued to strengthen my existing design skills, gaining more confidence in developing concepts and producing detailed technical work. I’ve also expanded my project management abilities, taking on greater responsibility in coordinating tasks, managing timelines, and supporting the smooth delivery of project stages.

My programme follows a very clear structured plan through the university course, with apprentices sitting alongside full time university students.

I receive all the support that I need from my employer who is very encouraging about my studies,

The university has plenty of support systems, and their dedicated apprenticeship team is very good at communicating with us.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It has allowed me to experiment with my design skills in an environment where there is less jeopardy.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are plenty of extra‑curricular opportunities within the practice, including regular sporting events, networking sessions, and CPD activities that support both social connection and professional growth. We also have occasional away days, which provide a chance to build relationships across the team and engage in activities outside the usual work environment.
