Student Nursing Associate Review

Communication poor - they introduced a new rule half way through the course but then told us all it wasn't new and is how it's always been but also that it's the first time then blamed any confusion on us gaslighting us that no one ever implied it was anything else. The support is very performative - in reality they try to do as little as possible to intervene. If this rule of a mandatory consolidation year was going to be implemented, it would have felt much fairer for it to apply to a new cohort with the requirement clearly stated in the job description so people could make an informed choice. When people expressed they were deeply unhappy with this they came to speak to us to say that we should be grateful the Trust even offers this course and pays for it, and said it was all about money and the cost of investing in this, they "don't get anything back" from offering it which is an awful way to talk about their students and qualified staff. When I emailed to complain about the decision I was 'reminded' what course I was currently doing and that they were paying for it and then told it was going to be implemented anyway. After doing most of this course, it honestly feels like depending on where you are and who they're short on you're either being treated as an underpaid registered nurse who can be used to fill gaps cheaply for another year, or we are still just being seen as HCSWs and all the extra training and responsibility we have taken on means very little.

University is great - consistent.

Raised serious concerns and a meeting was set up to tell me that's just the way it is.

You have to do it all yourself as they say you're an adult learner so won't help provide time for any opportunities or support you to take time away to learn.
