Communicating with various disciplines, craft, planners & managers.
Controlling a project, booking materials, sorting labour (both contractors & company staff), controlling costs of projects ensuring everything is on target with the budget.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

It’s a great way to learn and work your way through the different projects from the standard ones to the more complex ones.

Courses are booked in place to aid our growth over time. You are given a clear timetable to work to, to be able to complete the training scheme

How much support do you receive from your employer?

If me or anyone else is ever stuck or struggling their tasks then there are various people to ask to help you through your problems. And there are colleagues who give up their time to also talk about the more important things in life.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

From the training provider for work related courses there is plenty of support both in person and through digital communication methods.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

As the scheme involves many tasks associated to my future job role the scheme is designed to help you grow as an individual and it is up to me to push and challenge my fellow colleagues for help to get me to my end goal and be able to help them through my development and completion of my trading scheme

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is a social team who arrange various trips outside of working hours through out the year.
There are various charitable events to take part in to raise money for charity.
There are litter picks arranged to aid in cleaning up the depots local area.
National grid attend various shows to get out there what the company is doing in aiding all its customers and how it’s contributing to improving the various communities around their districts.

Would you recommend National Grid to a friend?

Yes

Why?

Great business to work for. Tremendous rates of pay. Great packages to aid towards retirement.
Flexible working hours to aid with family life. They always look after one of their own when they are struggling. Various healthcare options available to their staff.
It’s like one big family where everyone knows everyone at their local depots.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to National Grid?

Brush up on what is put on their website. And be sure what role you are applying for and ensure you know roughly if not 100% of what may be asked at an interview.
And give yourself plenty of time to completing the online application form.
