Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Performing manufacturing operations and inspections along with testing and occasional repair
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The program is good and well put together however the progress is quite slow for me. It is regulated quite heavily which is good for certain skill levels and learner types however it does not benefit others

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Actual physical manufacturing skills have been developed and some new practical skills were learned such as wire lacing and EMC testing

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The program is heavily structured with the college work being very segregated and paced and the placements being well organised however some of the extracurricular activities organised by my employer have been a bit chaotic.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer appears to provide support however the support is mainly aimed at the younger members of the scheme the support has however been helpful when needed as it has helped make the skills coaches more approachable and easy to talk to about issues we are having.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The training provider gives support whenever needed even when not present via email ranging from marking draft assignments to answering random questions we may have. the training provider ensures the we have everything we need to complete the work set and help if we don't understand something. They also make it abundantly clear what we need to do in order to adequately evidence that we are competent in the area of training provided.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
the main aspect is the practical skills learned as part of the first year workshop units being directly transferrable to the job role and the theoretical units provide a good basis and understanding of the principles applied to the processes being implemented in the job role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are plenty of social groups such as D&D and many different sport activities to get involved with including charity football matches and pickleball groups. there are often exhibitions from suppliers or external companies that allow for networking outside the company and ocassional offsite events.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend the company to a friend as it bares a lot of good opportunities and support however I would be hesitant to recommend the specific apprenticeship scheme I took since, as stated previously, it appears to be aimed more towards applicants who have just completed their GCSEs or A-levels and not someone who has completed a degree. while they do take older applicants it is obvious that the course was not designed for it.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
They need to have a good work ethic and need to be really good with acronyms. Be aware that sometimes it may feel like walking through tar but it gets easier. Remember to do some research on the company and the position ready for an interview
