Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
I am a Product Stability Analyst. On a day to day basis I test samples in the lab and record the data. I then communicate with formulators about any instabilities within there product. After all testing has been completed, I conclude the investigation and provide a written report. I have been trained on multiple pieces of equipment and digital tools related to my role and I am constantly learning new techniques to better aid my work. I am also part of the safety team and carry out regular inspections of our labs and report back findings.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I love my programme. All my colleagues are friendly and helpful and no question is ever left unanswered. I always feel supported and encouraged to learn new skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
I have learnt too many new skills to count and there is always development opportunities available. Upskilling is encouraged within the company culture.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
My programme is extremely well structured. Each year I rotate around different areas of the business, allowing me to network and develop a broad range of scientific skills.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
When I started at the company I was given a Mentor as well as a Line Manager. This has allowed me 2 direct points of contact within the business, making it easier to reach out when I need help. My manager oversees my team/role and my mentor supports me in my day to day role and answers any questions I may have.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

4/5
My university offers support in multiple different areas e.g. academic and mental health to name just a few. Each degree apprentice is given a skills coach who we have quarterly reviews with. This allows us to raise any issues in either work or university, they then can sign post us to available resources. However, the university is occasionally disorganised which can make learning difficult as it is conducted online

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

3/5
My degree so far has allowed me to develop a basic understanding of chemistry and lab sessions conducted at university have given me the chance to conduct experiments that I would usually do. However, the theoretical content is not currently applicable to my role, but I can see in a different placement within the business it may aid me more.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
My work offers numerous wellbeing groups and events e.g. choir, wind ensemble, Pride and other events celebrating culture and diversity. I am also part of the company Outreach Team, this allows me to visit school events such as careers talks and fairs. This allows me to demonstrate alternative options to university and for students to better understand where there subject choices can take them.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I 100% recommend Unilever due to the diversity within the R&D sector, this allows you to work within multiple areas and gain a holistic view of the business. The company provides a fabulous learning environment that encourages you to continuously grow. I have been given responsibilities from the offset, allowing me to see the importance of my work.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?

My main advice is to research the company when applying. This will allow you to tailor you application and understand whether the company goals/ethos align with your own. The biggest key to success in an apprenticeship is to love what you do, the company you work at is a big part of that. It is also important to be curious and whole heartedly yourself, Unilever values authenticity and people who bring different perspectives.
