Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I design the network to suite the customers needs and then send the quote that I have to create using sways on our system. I then attach all the paper work and pass the scheme onto team support. To get best service I make site visits

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy it a lot to put theory into real scenarios and opportunities to grow and develop on a secure salary allows peace of mind especially as I am older than some of my peers.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Great variety. Some tutors need more practise in the classroom and the material needs to be improved and more accessible to all learners. It looks very 1997 Microsoft PowerPoint with no attention detail or asthetics which is important to keep learners engaged and to relay information more clearly and in a summarised manner. But overall the training centre in Taunton is great and has good facilities. I have developed my knowledge and growing into my role

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Some adaptions are required to allow the information learnt to be absorbed and applied before being tested via tasks or projects so some space to do this in depot would be great.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

Excellent can’t fault the help. When required they have been there especially as I have had a tough medical journey since starting and the support and provisions of adult full coverage pads in the women’s toilets helps me stay in work and not feel embarrassed and in control of my condition and be able to keep doing my job. All staff at the depot are helpful and communicate well with each other.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Varies from trainer to trainer. Most of them are great and provide full support others struggle to meet this requirement due to lack of experience and potentially knowledge/confidence

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Without the training there would be no grounding in the job or what others in the industry do so that understanding is vital as I can plan accordingly knowing what their role is and how they connect people to the network

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We have a social society which I joined and these socials help me meet more of the team and chat about things other than work. Though I would like to get involved with some of the education to help improve teaching from an ex teacher point of view and apprentice in that current role.
