I am a Service Charge Accounts Apprentice at Savills. In my day-to-day role, I support the preparation of service charge accounts for a portfolio of properties. This includes working closely with surveyors and client accountants, responding to queries, and ensuring financial information is accurate and up to date.
A key part of my role involves assisting with the preparation of year-end accounts, where I help reconcile budgets, review expenditure, and ensure all documentation is complete and compliant. I am also involved in handling the sale of property accounts, ensuring a smooth transfer of financial information between parties.
Through this work, I contribute to the efficient running of the business, as the service charge accounts function is essential to maintaining transparency and trust with clients and stakeholders.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my programme as it has helped me develop a strong understanding of service charge accounts and the wider property industry. It has allowed me to apply what I learn in a practical setting, which has been very valuable.
I particularly enjoy the variety of tasks in my role and the opportunity to work with different people, including surveyors and client accountants across the country. This has helped build my confidence, communication skills, and attention to detail.
Overall, I find the programme both engaging and rewarding, as it is helping me build the knowledge and skills I need for my future career.

During my programme, I have developed a range of skills. I have greatly improved my attention to detail, particularly when working on financial data and preparing accounts, where accuracy is key.
I have also developed my presentation and communication skills, allowing me to present information more clearly and professionally when working with surveyors and client accountants. I have also improved my reliability and ability to manage my workload effectively, ensuring tasks are completed on time and to a high standard.
The programme has also helped me learn how to carry myself in a professional workplace, building confidence in how I communicate and interact with colleagues. Alongside this, I have developed better time management skills, allowing me to balance my workload with my personal life more effectively.

The programme is well organised and structured, it has a good balance between practical work and learning and I have a good understanding of what is expected of me. The structure has made it easier to stay on track and build confidence in my role.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a high level of support from my employer. My team and managers are always approachable and willing to help when needed, I can ask questions without hesitation and am provided with guidance on tasks. I feel supported in my development, and there is a strong focus on helping me learn and improve within my role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive good support from my training provider throughout my studies. They provide clear guidance, helpful resources, and are available to answer any questions I have. This support has helped me stay on track with my learning and feel confident in progressing towards my qualifications.

It is important to be confident in yourself and demonstrate a positive attitude, as those who are motivated and eager to develop are often noticed. Taking initiative and showing interest in the role will help you stand out.
