Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I'm only a first year as a technical apprentice at Taylor Woodrow, but in the past year they have taught me so much and given me so many opportunities. My job is a site engineer, so I'd go out on site and learn how the jobs get done by shadowing supervisors and also giving my own input. In office I learnt how to do things like permits and RAMS, which are needed for site. I've also done surveying, which I've been learning quite a lot about so I've been able to do things on my own.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy the programme, they have given me many chances to learn new things and the team that I am with is great and that's all I can ask for.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have leant many new skills in different areas, I've been surveying mostly but I have deloped skills in different areas such as quantity surveying as I've had to work out and cost things we need for the job. I developed my skills in problem solving as well as things don't always go to plan and the team has to find a fix for it.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The structure is great. We spend most our time at the job learning about new skills and gaining experience and then 4 times a year we go to university for 2 weeks. This is great as for those 2 weeks we can just focus on university work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer has given me all the support I need, they pay for my hotel and food when I go to university, they have given me some options of training I can do which they will pay for. They also check in and give good opportunities to apprentices
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Loads, they give us time at work to study and give us the materials we need to help as pass and progress further
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I'm only a first year so we are learning basics to help us in coming years at university so it's not too relevant at the moment.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, I've been involved in many social activities, I've been going around to different schools and places to talk to loads of different people about our company and the jobs and apprenticeships we offer

Would you recommend Taylor Woodrow to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They are a great company that gives you loads of opportunities and help you learn on the job. They also don't treat you as an apprentice but a fellow engineer, so they actually value you contributions and listen to your input.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Taylor Woodrow?
They like you to enjoy engineering in and outside of school, they do require A-levels or college qualification but they would like to also see things that you have been doing outside of the classroom.
