Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work within the waste water sector with Veolia. I perform maintenance, breakdown and installation tasks on a daily basis.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Overall it is a great environment to learn and work within. I am lucky with the group of people I work with and have felt supported at all times whilst being in the workplace.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learned a lot of new skills. I started with a very basic understanding of hand skills and electrical knowledge. Now as I approach the end of my apprenticeship I have a deep understanding of the industry and can perform the work to a very high standard.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The structure in year 1 is difficult. Being in college for 5days a week doesnt allow a deep understanding of what the work enviornment is going to be like and can give a false representation of the industry. Year 2-4 is much better with college being on day release. This allows easier learning as the college course becomes more complex, work experiences can be related to to help understand it all.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer offers as much support as possible with regular meetings to check in and make sure everything is going well. I have multiple people I can contact regarding any issues.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive all the support that I require. My employer has a very good approach to this as they will not force support onto me. I can choose and discuss what is needed to benefit my progress the best.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualifications directly effect the job role that I am training to become. The jobs I perform in my role are used to gather evidence to pass the qualification.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Why?

Veolia has been an amazing programme. I have never felt out of place and have always been given brilliant treatment from all areas of the company. Any problems I have encountered have very quickly been resolved.
