Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work as an Innovation Degree Apprentice at Evri, working within the Innovation team on the software engineering side rather than product side. My role focuses on supporting the development and delivery of new ideas and trial initiatives to help evolve the business further along.
On a day-to-day basis, I assist with ongoing trials, as well as troubleshooting any issues that arise. I am responsible for creating, managing, and completing tickets to track work and ensure progress is documented effectively with acceptance criteria. I also regularly attend meetings with both internal team members and external vendors to discuss products, opportunities, and support collaboration across projects.
Overall, my role combines hands-on technical work with teamwork and communication, contributing to the successful testing and rollout of innovative solutions.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy my programme. It provides a good balance between work and study, and I’ve found it to be manageable rather than stressful, even while juggling university alongside my role. Evri gives me the time required for my University work.
The work-life balance is strong, which helps me stay productive and maintain a positive mindset. I also enjoy the variety of technologies and products we work with, as it keeps the role interesting and engaging while allowing me to continuously learn and develop new skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
During my programme, I have developed a range of both new and existing skills.
From a social perspective, I have improved my communication skills through regular interaction with vendors, colleagues and communities where we run our trials, becoming more confident in professional conversations and collaboration. Technically, I have strongly strengthened my software development skills, particularly in coding and working with different tools and technologies. This is mostly from shadowing other members to see their ways of working.
In addition to this, I have also developed non-technical skills such as design skills and written communication, which have helped me contribute more effectively to projects and present ideas more clearly. Overall, the programme has supported a well-rounded development of both my technical and professional skill set.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My university terms are structured with workshop lessons that are sent out at the start of the term. This way, I can plan and make my team aware of my unavailability. Evri gives me the time needed to always attend these and extra time, before or afterwards, to support the workshops with more learning time.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My manager gives me all the time I need for my university work, if I need extra time for assignments or portfolio activities, I am able to flexibly move my calendar around.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We have regular check-ins with my DLC who is my Direct Learning Coach who supports me and my work. The tutors are easily accessible for when I have questions about assignments or topics we covered in the workshops.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It underpins all the work I complete with more knowledge, allowing me to understand the theoretical side instead of just completing the work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There is not many hosted at Evri.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Evri?
It’s also helpful to demonstrate good communication and teamwork skills, as the company involves collaborating with different teams and external vendors. Being proactive and asking questions will help you get the most out of the experience.
