Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As a Senior BIM Assistant I, I support the coordination and delivery of BIM across live projects, ensuring digital information is accurate, compliant, and aligned with client and project requirements. The role involves assisting with ISO 19650 processes, undertaking model coordination and quality checks, managing information within the Common Data Environment, and supporting collaboration between design teams, site teams, and BIM Managers. Through a mix of technical, coordination, and process‑driven tasks, I help maintain high standards of information management across the project life cycle while continuously developing my BIM knowledge and skills.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Throughout my time on the programme, I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I have built strong connections within my apprentice cohort, across internal teams, and at university. I have also grown significantly within my role, and my confidence has improved greatly.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
While I have been on the programme, my confidence has improved significantly. I am now more comfortable presenting to larger audiences and confidently handling one‑to‑one calls with contractors. My collaboration skills have also developed as I have built stronger relationships within my teams, enabling me to work more effectively and seamlessly with others.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is very well structured, with clear guidance provided throughout by the Emerging Talent Team. In addition, development sessions are held with the wider apprentice cohort throughout the year, supporting ongoing learning, collaboration, and team‑building.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer provides me with a high level of support. I have weekly one‑to‑one catch‑ups with my line manager to review my working week, where I can ask questions, provide updates, and access any support required. Dedicated time is also set aside to discuss my university progress and identify any additional support I may need.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I receive ongoing support from my training provider while working towards my university qualification. During my first two years, I attended in person, which allowed me to access a high level of academic support. My third year has been delivered online as I work towards my End Point Assessment; however, I continue to have regular touchpoints with my training provider to monitor my progress and ensure I receive any support required.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I believe that my qualification has had a positive impact on my performance in the workplace. The more generic modules, such as those covering RIBA Stages, have strengthened my overall industry understanding, while university study has helped me develop my technical knowledge. In the workplace, I have been able to apply this learning alongside increased confidence and practical experience. The combination of academic study and on‑the‑job learning has allowed me to develop a broad range of skills, supporting my continued progression within my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are many extracurricular activities available to get involved with in the workplace. We have a dedicated team day every Thursday where everyone comes into the office, followed by informal socialising after work. In addition, the BIM team holds monthly socials at different venues, such as TOCA Football, darts, snooker, and games nights. There are also football teams and wider Mace groups that employees can join, providing further opportunities to take part in social events and build connections across the business.
