Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I worked within Mace Consult’s Strategic Advisory team, supporting the Transition Management Office (TMO) on the Lower Thames Crossing programme. My day-to-day work included maintaining programme documentation, tracking changes, supporting reporting and undertaking research, alongside wider social value and inclusion activities.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes. I was trusted with recurring responsibilities such as maintaining the change log and coordinating weekly flash reports, as well as contributing to wider pieces of work including the LTC Community Fund proposal. This gave me both ownership of regular tasks and opportunities to contribute my own ideas.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Yes. I developed my project and programme management, research and analytical, and communication skills. I also improved my digital skills, particularly using Excel, PowerPoint and Word, while developing a stronger understanding of social value, stakeholder engagement and major infrastructure projects.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received a lot of support and guidance throughout my placement. My line manager and wider team were approachable, regularly checked in with me and were always willing to answer questions or provide feedback, while still giving me independence and ownership over my work.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The culture was welcoming, collaborative and inclusive. I felt comfortable asking questions and contributing ideas, and the team balanced professionalism with a friendly atmosphere that made the workplace feel very human and enjoyable.
