Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work in the design team. Currently, my role involves supporting our senior engineers, completing design-stage health and safety checks and creating first drafts of designs
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I'm really enjoying it. I find the work that I'm doing interesting and the team I work in are very supportive.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I've developed lots of skills. I've strengthened my written and oral communication skills, my problem solving skills and my analytical thinking. I've also learnt a lot about the construction environment and how to apply these skills in practice

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very well structured. I study on block release so I have a week away at a time to study. I also have designated time throughout the week to undertake off-the-job training
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive lots of support. In my day-to-day role, everyone in the team is very supportive and very approachable. With my studies, I have designated time every week, but the team are also flexible enough that things can be moved around to fit my off-the-job training in. They also provide me with opportunities to apply what I've learnt at university. As an example, I recently completed a structural analysis module, so I have spent some time with one of our structural engineers to understand how the theory I've learnt is applied in our work
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I attend Coventry University. I find the block weeks really useful and while I'm there I receive lots of support. Away from the block weeks, there are often online drop-in sessions close to assignment submission dates to provide any additional help prior to submitting my work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that I have gained a broad understanding of the construction industry through my qualification and have a much better understanding of what is expected of me. Some of the more discipline-specific modules that don't relate directly to my day-to-day role, such as the structural analysis module, have still been helpful in providing me with a wider knowledge of engineering principles and developed key transferable skills that have helped to improve my performance
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There have been a few opportunities but nothing regular
