Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Shadowing the utilities team, attending site visits to carry out records of conditions, meet clients, carrying out initial checks for new projects.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Initially it was more just training to ensure I understood everything, but as my time in the placement progressed, I was definitely given more responsibility and felt like a valued member of the team.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Yes I have learnt many new skills, including understanding technical terms relating to land and utilities. Now understand the initial searches that are involved in the beginning of a new project, and all the work that is needed at early stages to ensure that suitable precautions are taken.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

Whenever I asked for help, I was given help and time, which was very positive. Initial guidance and training was also given. Attending site visits with members of the team also allowed me to learn a lot, and get to know them better, therefore making you feel more comfortable.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I really enjoyed my placement. I had never done anything like it, and therefore feel I learnt a lot which will be useful when returning for my final year of university. Everyone made me feel welcomed and comfortable.
