Daily Tasks Differ Dependant On Current Placement, As Apprentices Are Shoehorned Into Existing Teams, Most Often Good, Not Always. Most Teams Enjoy And Appreciate The Opportunity To Mould An Apprentice For The Better.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I Enjoy The Programme Overall, Though Some Sticking Parts Do Remain, Certain Placements Are Unhelpful/Irrelevant To Your Future Job Role. Though They Can At Least Be Used For Appreciation Of Those Who Do Work Those Roles.

Most Placements Have Taught A Lot Of Very Useful Skills, So Much That I Struggle To Absorb Them All.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

There Is An Essence Of Structure, A General Framework To Guide Apprentices Through The Course. This Isn't Explicitly Bad As It Allows Flexibility To Organise Your Own Placements After Having A Few Years Under Your Belt, And Try Out Different Placements You Want To. This Doesn't Work When You Have Just Started However.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

Support Varies From Placement To Placement. Usually The Best Support Comes From The More Senior Apprentices Who Have Experienced The Same Or Similar Circumstances Before. Though They Tend To Have Found Out The Hard Way Themselves.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The University Themselves Mostly Provide Enough Support, Though Sometimes Not Enough Guidance Is Given And Students Are Aimless With Their Assignments. Fortunately The Apprentice Liaison Officers (ALO) Are Very Helpful, I Have Nothing But Good Words About My ALO. I Thank Him For A Lot Of My Development.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The Degree Is Very Relevant To Help Me Perform In My Role. The Length Of The Qualification Allows Ample Time Working As Well To Gain Significant Experience As Well. As If The Course Was Just University Portion I Would Have Felt Under Prepared To Perform My Role At The End. Thankfully It Is Not.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There Are Ample Extra-Curricular Activities For People To Get Involved With, These Help Build Bonds With People They Work With Or Create New Ones That They Can Use Later On In Their Job Role.

Regardless Of Its Difficulties, The Jumping Off Point Into A Potentially Lifelong Career Is Undeniable. The Opportunity To Learn Engineering And Best Practises From Industry Professionals In An Albeit Niche Field Is Significant. Simultaneously Gaining Significant Working Experience Would Have No End Of Benefits Helping An Apprentice Progress Their Career In This Industry Or Afield.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?

Apply Here And Apply Elsewhere, Intake Numbers Are Low Compared To Number Of Applicants For All Roles, There Is No Guarantee You Would Be Successful. It Is Best To Cast A Wide Net And Not Place All Your Eggs In One Basket.
