Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Comparing estimate vs actual costs, creating schedules and POAPs, reviewing deliverables sent to customer, attending risk and opportunity reviews, analysing/producing documents that support the project's governance.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme, sometimes I feel that the degree side could do with a few improvements but the job role it's self is something that I really enjoy. I enjoy having a diverse work week, spending time travelling, working, studying and applying my knowledge.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes I have developed digital skills in Excel, P6, Word, even Outlook and OneNote. I have also developed behavioural skills including, leadership, teamwork, innovation, professionalism. And finally, technical skills I have developed include, scheduling, cost estimating, risk monitoring and controlling, stakeholder and communication's management.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is mostly organised and structured well, however there are occasional miscommunications between the university, apprentices and company.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

The employer provides full support, whether that is accommodating extra study time within your work week if needed or having catch ups with your early careers skills coaches.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The PMQ and project management degree heavily benefit my ability to perform within my role as it all interlinks, providing me with knowledge and understanding that can be put into practice at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I am part of the apprentice committee and often take part in extra activities/competitions such as the national competition, The APM challenge.

Why?
BAE Systems is a well established company with good support for it's employee's. The complex nature of their large-scale projects provide varying experiences for employees to take opportunities in.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Research the company, understand what your unique selling point is about you and even if you don't come from the background you'd like to go into, do some extra work to show you're eager to learn. For example, free online courses in scheduling or P6 if you have no previous experience of project management, etc.
