Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I have to work closely with other working departments to produce project programmes and plan works for upcoming dates. I work closely with Avove's Project managers, organise meetings with them and go through created, in progress or approaching start date projects. These projects are Water infrastructure based, created based on the requirements of the client. I also work in another sector of Avove based in Yorkshire and help support their planning team through planning small scale jobs.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I think the programme is good. It's a shame though that there are limitations in the apprenticeship aspect of not being able to start my EPA until a year and a day has passed, even if I'm at a standard to be able to complete it. The information learned through the apprenticeship isn't quite in line with what my job role is, which is a Project Planner.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have absolutely developed new skills through this job opportunity. I have developed many skills in IT, such as understanding how to use Excel, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Visio, P6, SAP Productions and CEMAR. I have also developed stronger ability to communicate, gained better confidence and created strong working relationships.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
During the start of this programme it wasn't very organised at all, I feel like I would go days without having proper jobs to do, and didn't feel like I was being utilised as much as I could have been, or giving enough learning opportunities. With time the work load did start increasing but it was a very gradual and still felt too little with the skills I had learned by then. I feel like these issues could have been controlled or managed better, and just was due to poor planning and little work load. Regardless this has improved and feedback that we have provided has been heard and acted upon. Which as a result has improved the structure of it.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I honestly can't praise my Employer enough, the support they provide is incredible. From Senior Managers to Line Managers and everyone in between. Everyone is unbelievably supportive and really show that they want the best for your development. They will provide you with information if you ask and will really help you understand and develop into your role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider is great. She really helps me with the work and provides a lot of learning resources that I can use to better improve my knowledge and really boost my papers on my units. She also strongly encourages me and finds ways to link my work in the office with the units we go through.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I think there are certain parts that really help such as the character development skills, but the actual units have almost nothing to do with my role and don't help improve my ability. I think it would have been better if it would have been more IT specific modules that link with my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes there's loads. Work does almost weekly football matches, and have a Roadshow every 6 months that discuss the good and the bad, and rewards employees for good work. They also provide opportunities such as: Christmas Events, Leaving Do's, Engagement Do's and the random meals every so often.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Avove to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think they are a good company. They value their employee's, offer quite a bit of flexibility, and really support your development and encourage your personal growth.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Avove?
Be yourself, show off your best traits, and if this is somewhere you want to work, prove it to them. They appreciate determination and transparency, as well as seeing how your personality would fit into the teams.
