Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
On a day to day basis I work with the civil engineering team to help produce designs and solutions in the waste water industry. This involves analysing real life data produced from surveys, practicing CAD skills to Mark-up & produce Drawings as well as learning about the different codes and standards that inform design decisions.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am really enjoying the program as it enables me to put the knowledge I am learning on my course into real life practice. I also like the supportive early careers environment the company encourage as I learn a lot from mentors around. Furthermore, the organisation are passionate with apprentices and graduates gaining knowledge from each other and more life skills so they se up regular apprentice meetings and life skills sessions.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Since starting my apprenticeship, I've learnt many new skills in my role from Computer Aided Design to writing reports. The company has further helped us develop life skills by providing regular sessions & workshops on topics like personal finance, mortgages as well as presenting skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The apprenticeship programme is very well structured, it prioritises time for your education and uni beyond other companies. They honour uni time as undisrupted time for you to independently complete assignments and they enable you extra study time leading up to exams to prevent you doing uni work out of working hours. There are also frequent catchups with the early career manager as well as a progress development meeting every 3 months to go over goals and set new targets. Alongside tis, the programme is structured to include in person and online life skills sessions every month.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My line manager and mentor frequently check up on me and ask about my uni studies as away to see if i have any questions or to expand my knowledge further with real life projects examples where i can apply my skills. The support from the wider team is exceptional and they really encourage me to ask questions when I don't understand things to help further my skills.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The training provider encourages you along your degree to participate and ask questions throughput lectures and studies. They also provide feedback on how we are doing and assess our off the job training.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The Knowledge and Skills gained through university help me preform better in my role as i am putting them to practice and using them on real life projects. My employers also aid in developing my skills by teaching me more good practices and engineering skills from their own experience in the industry.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
On the NWL framework my team work on, there are opportunities to get involved with the early careers enterprise enabling young people to interact through social activities as well as share knowledge on the projects they're working on.
