Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
2/5
Completing daily maintenance tasks, administration and attending machine breakdowns.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
1/5
Massively lacking regular support in my learning.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
2/5
I have learnt bits and pieces, but if you consider the fact I have now been on site full time, post college, for a year now, I would expect to have learned a lot more and had a lot more opportunities to learn through regular lessons and practical tests.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
Really poor. You essentially finish college, then get to site where literally nobody knows what to do with you so you just end up following people around in an attempt to learn something.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
If you actively reach out and pester for courses, you may get some. However, an apprentice should not be left fully responsible for their learning, courses and training need to be organized on their behalf and progress closely monitored so they know they are on track, which does not happen here.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
Once you leave college, you don't really hear from them. You have fairly regular check in's from you 'assessor' who never really actually does much, just asks how its going and makes you fill in a form.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
Training from the college was poor. Some instructors couldn't be asked and the standard of training was below par.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Amazon to a friend?
No
Why?
Whilst the pay is very good for an apprenticeship, the training provided, continuous learning on site and the structure is non existent. You end up trying to teach yourself and being an underpaid technician, responding to calls and completing maintenance tasks just as they do. Management don't seem to care about your development whatsoever and when attempting to transfer to new sites to get more exposure and change the environment, they don't want you there either. Seems ridiculous to invest so much money in someone yet ignore their learning requirements and risk ending up with a technician who doesn't know anything.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Amazon?
Quite honestly, I would say take the lower pay and go with a company who actually teaches you what you need to know to be a well rounded, competent technician.
