Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Amazon to a friend?
No
Why?
Amazon should ensure that teams and managers who take on apprentices fully understand the purpose of the programme. Apprentices should not be limited to repetitive administrative tasks such as wiki design. They should be given opportunities to develop, gain practical experience, and apply what they are learning within project management.
There should also be stronger oversight to ensure teams are providing this level of support and development. In some cases, apprentices can be taken advantage of due to their junior position. When issues like this arise, there needs to be a clear and supportive process in place.
In my experience, I raised concerns about an unethical situation but was told I could not move teams and could leave if I wanted to. This felt dismissive and unsupported. Greater protection and advocacy for apprentices is needed, as I did not feel adequately supported by the programme managers when I escalated the issue.
That said, the University of Exeter has been very supportive and helpful throughout, which I have genuinely appreciated.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Amazon?
Know the Amazon Leadership Principles and use the STAR technique. Be confident.
