Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I lead a team of 26 colleagues, across two key activities within our operational delivery - workflow and data change management.
My day to day activity can vary from setting strategy, to reviewing progress against objectives to dealing with systems or governance issues and opportunities.
As Data and Information Asset Owner for our delivery function, I can be involved in reviewing our master data elements and risk management.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am really enjoying my apprenticeship programme. Although I am experienced leader I am finding that I am learning so much that I can put to use within our business and in supporting my team aswell as colleagues I mentor within the business.
I am enjoying the application of the learning in a structured and consistent way, as I build up a portfolio of evidence.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I am continuing to learn new skills relating to learning and skills development mentoring. Learning about development models that I can put to use in my day to day activity, the benefits of clear contracting and goal setting, with regular verbal re-contracting, to keep momentum going. I've developed my skills with setting professional boundaries, working within ethical and legal frameworks, helped by our organisational guidance and ensuring I work collaboratively with my mentee stakeholders to meet their individual needs.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
It's a very well structured programme, which works well to my values and ways of working.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive appropriate and adequate support from my employer. My line manager is supportive and I was offered the opportunity to have a mentor myself, which I declined, as I didn't feel I needed that additional level of support. It's great to see it is being offered, so that the mentor can feel fully supported.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider offers suitable and sufficient support. The structure of the programme has been helpful. From the outset it was clear what the timeline was, when the teach sessions would be for the entire duration and then supported by regular check ins with my tutor on a 121 basis and then quarterly with my tutor and line manager.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I can see that even before I have completed my EPA, I have already implemented key learings into the way I work. Examples of this include adding more reflective practice into my working time, so that I can course correct if needed or provide additional support to my mentees or my team.
The experience that I am having as I work through my qualification has enabled me to encourage others to consider apprenticeships. I am an advocate on our mentors network, encouraging other mentors to consider signing up for the next cohort, before the funding ceases. Additionally, I have enthusiastically encouraged one of my direct reports to sign up for an apprenticeship, which she has recently started.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
We are a dispersed business, mostly working from home with occassional office working, as required. This has meant that our extra curricular activites are now more online rather than face to face. We do however ensure we meet at local team level, which I do with my team face to face three times a year, which always includes some team activities and socialising.
