Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
2/5
The role itself varies from site to site, so far it's a bit scattered but if you're on a more established site you may have a better organised apprenticeship
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The college side was relatively interesting which has taken up 6 months of the year so far.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have learned new skills on the college course, however currently on site, we are limited to shadowing or doing general house-keeping

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
The programme itself has shrunk year on year, as we have been informed in previous years we had more college and less time on-site, and given as you aren't allowed to touch tools it limits learning opportunities.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
It currently isn't ideal, it felt very much of find your own feet and work from there. I believe the cohort is treated as 'you're lucky to be here' which comparably to other jobs in the sector we are. However the support on the course does feel face value and just moving across the proverbial conveyor belt.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
So far the training provider has been quite supportive and tried to offer support on and off the job. We have open lines of communication to use.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
During the first year, it's difficult to tell as we aren't currently doing much in terms of practical work and aren't at college.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
Not that I have been made aware of.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Amazon to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's a yes and no. It's a good course to get your foot in the door of Engineering as it has a reasonable salary. However, the limitations of what you can actually do in your first year or two may be stumbling blocks. Additionally the reduction in the time spent at college may be detrimental to this years' cohort.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Amazon?
I would say, take your time, think about the tasks provided before applying and make sure Engineering is right for you as the time commitment is quite a lot.
Be confident in your own skills and don't let age/previous employment hold you back.
