Software Engineer Apprentice Review

As a software engineer in Prime Video I help uphold the internal testing platform that is used to troubleshoot the Prime Video app. On a day-to-day basis I attend a daily standup meeting where I update the team on my progress. I then spend the rest of the day problem-solving, coding and collaborating with my team.

The structure and support have been exceptionally well-organised, with my line manager serving as my primary point of contact for day-to-day guidance. The program is overseen by the apprenticeship team who remain readily available to address any concerns. Additionally, the onboarding process facilitated by our external educational provider has been transparent and thorough, with their team demonstrating genuine commitment to our success and providing excellent support throughout.

My line manager and senior engineers in my team provide immediate guidance and mentorship for day-to-day challenges, while the dedicated apprenticeship team ensures comprehensive oversight of my development program. Amazon offers extensive learning resources, formal training programs, and access to subject matter experts across the organisation. Additionally, the company fosters a supportive culture through regular team events and creates an environment where asking questions and seeking guidance is actively encouraged, ensuring I have the resources needed to succeed both professionally and academically.

Through my training provider, I have been assigned a Designated Learning Coach, who I check-in with quarterly, to assist me through my program. Individual module lecturers are also very helpful and host office hours to offer advice on assignments. Their genuine investment in my success, combined with accessible resources and responsive communication, ensures I have the academic support needed to progress confidently through my apprenticeship qualifications.

My qualification directly enhances my performance by providing structured knowledge that complements my hands-on work. The coursework covers fundamental principles like software development methodologies and quality assurance processes that I immediately apply to daily tasks.
