A balance between training and on-site placement focusing on engineering maintenance. I am assigned tasks which are interesting and vary day-to-day.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have enjoyed my experience in my placement more than I have enjoyed my time in training as my particular external training provider was disorganised at times. I have really enjoyed having the opportunity to learn about different engineering disciplines such as electrical, electronic, manufacturing, mechanical etc, because it has helped me discover which topics I enjoy most.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt so much more technical information and have been able to develop my practical skills massively which has really boosted my confidence.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is only the second time that my employer has delivered this specific apprenticeship programme. It has been very disorganised at times as some units have changed or been added but I would say that this has been more my external training provider's fault than my employer's the vast majority of the time.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I think it's fair to say that I get a lot of support from my employer, they've given me guidance on how to advance my career and I feel very motivated to continue working for them.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Whilst some of the trainers have been really encouraging, the external training company has been very disorganised and has done a poor job of informing us of changes. They also have failed to deliver on certain expectations e.g. they did not upload our coursework to smart assessor which was their responsibility.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My placement requires a high level of electrical knowledge which is a bit advanced compared to my current apprenticeship level but my level 2 has taught me many important pieces of legislation, practical skills, self-sufficiency and resilience.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is no shortage of activities to do whether professional development opportunities, personal improvement or even hobby related. Whatever your interests there is a welcoming group of people happy to help organise events.

Why?
There is such a variety of job opportunities, I really enjoy the culture and the sense that you will be supported in your future professional and personal development.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AWE?
It's a very different environment to many other jobs so it can be a bit of a culture shock but if you are adaptable and looking to grow then this is the place for you.
