Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a Finance Apprentice, gaining experience across different areas of the Finance team. I rotate departments every six months, which allows me to develop a broad understanding of the firm’s financial processes. On a day-to-day basis, I support tasks such as processing transactions, assisting with reconciliations and responding to internal queries. This structure helps me build practical skills while completing my apprenticeship programme.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy my programme, as it gives me valuable hands-on experience across different areas of finance. Rotating departments every six months allows me to develop a broad skill set and understand how each function supports the firm. It has helped me build confidence, improve my technical knowledge and gain practical experience in a professional environment.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have developed a number of new skills and strengthened existing ones during my programme. My email writing and overall communication skills have improved significantly, as I regularly correspond with colleagues to respond to queries and provide updates in a clear and professional manner. I have also developed stronger organisational and time management skills by working to deadlines, particularly during month-end processes. In addition, I have improved my attention to detail and confidence when using finance systems to process transactions and complete reconciliations accurately.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I would say overall the programme is well structured and organised. I started in October, a month after the other apprentices, which initially made me feel slightly at a disadvantage as they had already settled into their roles. However, once I became familiar with the processes and expectations, I felt much more confident. Overall, it has been a positive experience, although there are a couple of areas where small adjustments could make it even stronger
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
So far, I feel I have received a high level of support from the firm. Although I have only worked in three departments to date, the support I have experienced has been excellent. Colleagues have been approachable and willing to answer questions, which has helped me build confidence in each rotation. Overall, I feel well supported in my development and learning.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I feel I receive a good level of support from my training provider while working towards my qualifications. They provide clear guidance on coursework and assessments, and are available to answer any questions I may have. Regular check-ins help me stay on track and understand what is expected. Overall, the support has helped me manage my studies alongside my day-to-day responsibilities at work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel that my qualification supports me well in performing my role more effectively. The knowledge I gain through my training provider helps me better understand the financial processes I work with on a daily basis. It allows me to apply theory to practical tasks, such as reconciliations and reporting, which improves both my confidence and accuracy. Overall, it strengthens my understanding and helps me contribute more effectively within each department I rotate through.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, there are a range of extra-curricular activities to get involved in at work, and I have taken part in several so far. These have included social events such as charity fun nights and activities like escape rooms. I have also participated in wellbeing initiatives, including the self-care benefit session with Antidote. In addition, there have been a number of networking events and team lunches to welcome new colleagues, which have been great opportunities to build relationships across the firm.
