Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
1. embedding a new BI tool in the business
2. developing the company's data toolkit to maximum outcomes for the people we support and share holders.
On a day to day basis, I review requirements, arrange for data to be available, design reports with end users and produce insights. I also maintain and answer questions about the existing reports.
In the long term, I will use the skills developed in my degree to move the company towards advanced analytics and machine learning techniques. I will also take an active role in the data strategy road map as the company evolves.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
I feel the e-learning could be stronger - there isn't a lot of 'now you do it and check if we got the same answer'. The course emphasises reading textbooks via O'Reilly or taking eLearning courses on LinkedIn. Many of these recommendations are on the same page and have heavily overlapped content. As a University course with such an emphasis on these external courses, I'd like to see a more curated approach.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
It's early days but I've learned a lot about statistics and data cleaning which has been helpful in my role.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?
The jump between term 1 and term 2 is quite significant and the subject matter could use more tutor time than 2 hours per week.
Having said that, thus far it flows logically.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
I would like to see stronger e-learning materials.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
The focus on scientific rigour has changed the way I approach problem solving so I can be far more sure of myself when sharing my insights.
