Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role involves talking to customers and designing the electrical connections they ask for. I give them a quote and design and liase with others to ensure it meets all network and legal requirements.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy the programme very much and like spending time learning at an easier pace. It is great at propelling me into the job and broadening my knowledge of the industry as a whole.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes. I have learnt so much since joining. I know a lot about the electrical industry considering I came in with no prior knowledge. I find I learn something new everyday.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
They gave us an overview of where we would be across the apprenticeship period and what courses we would be on to prepare us. The training and studies can be tedious but they all have direct links to the job role and are sequential so we never feel lost.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
It is good becuase I have supportive colleagues. They help to answer all my questions. It can be hard though to adjust to the working environment as someone straight out of school.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The college that we use is not the best and there could be better communication between our provider and company. They do not do anything directly linked to our studies, however they do allocate study days and provide accommodation which is useful.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I think a degree level qualification would be better or an overall engineering qualification. This is still good as it covers the network however i think this is more suited for the transmission side of national grid rather than distribution.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
No there are only a few communities but no sports or society.

Would you recommend National Grid to a friend?
Yes
Why?
the environment here is safe, friendly and great to grow professionally. it presents many opportunities, while allowing you to make a real difference. I enjoy the job and have gained so much knowledge and skills that could help me in all aspects of life.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to National Grid?
Do it. It is a great company and somewhere you could see yourself staying at. It is great for people straight from school too.
