Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
In my role as an early years practitioner, I support the care, learning and development of young children, ages 0-4. I primarily work in the toddler room, with a focus on creating engaging activities in a safe and familiar environment, where children feel valued and respected.
My day to day routines typically involve preparing the learning environment, welcoming children and communicating with carers, planning and carrying out activities, assisting with mealtimes, nappy-changing/assisting with hygiene and personal care, recording observations, ensuring the environment is clean and safe, working with my team and following safeguarding procedures.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I adore working with children, and building bonds with them through play and care. I love imaginative and creative play, so feel very lucky to be in a role that encourages and celebrates this. I can find the job stressful at times, as I'm sure most would, but it is ultimately very rewarding. The programme has been informative and I feel I have learned a lot throughout my course.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Both! My new skills include safeguarding awareness, and how to recognise and raise concerns. I have new understanding of children's development and how to meet their needs in a nursery setting. Existing skills I have developed include my communication, talking with children, parents and colleagues, problem solving, observation skills, my patience and empathy, and basic health and care skills for children. I also gained my paediatric first aid.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Sometimes the briefs on the modules were a little confusing or vague, but overall I found the course easy to engage with and apply myself to.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Getting enough time out has been an issue throughout my course, but I have always felt supported when I have wanted help with anything and when taking time for meetings. I have felt supported in the workspace and am comfortable discussing any issues or ideas I have.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My first tutor was lovely but not very helpful unfortunately, my current one has been wonderful and I have felt very supported.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Having a better understanding of child development, safeguarding, observation and assessment skills, has given me a lot more confidence in my practice, and enabled me to provide an enriching and safe environment for the children I care for.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Inset days, Nursery World Conventions, social events with the team (Christmas parties, Summer parties), Nursery Award Ceremonies.
