As a Room Leader in a busy nursery, I manage the day-to-day running of the room, ensuring a safe, engaging, and well-organised environment for children. My role includes planning and delivering age-appropriate activities in line with the EYFS, carrying out regular observations to track children’s development, and using these to inform next steps in learning. I support and guide staff within the room, maintain strong communication with parents, and ensure all safeguarding and welfare requirements are consistently met.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoyed the programme to a great extent as it was relevant to my role and supported my development. The Apprentice activities helped me reflect on my practice, while the webinars were engaging and provided useful, practical ideas I could apply in the nursery. Overall, it was a valuable experience that built my confidence and improved my day-to-day practice.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes, I have both learned new skills and built on existing ones. I have become more confident in carrying out meaningful observations and using them to plan effectively for children’s next steps. My ability to reflect on my own practice has also improved, helping me make more informed decisions in the room. Alongside this, I have developed stronger leadership skills by supporting my team more effectively and improving how I communicate with both staff and parents. The programme also introduced me to new approaches and ideas that I have been able to adapt into my daily practice.

The programme is well organised and structured, with clear sessions that build on each other. It is easy to follow alongside my work, and the expectations and support help me stay on track.

I receive a good level of support from my employer. They provide time and flexibility to complete my programme work, encourage my attendance at webinars, and support me in applying new ideas within the nursery. I also feel comfortable asking for guidance when needed, which helps me stay on track and develop in my role.

I receive a good level of support from my training provider. They are approachable and respond quickly to any questions I have, and the guidance provided helps me understand what is expected in my work. The feedback I receive is clear and useful, helping me improve and stay on track with my qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel that my qualification through my training provider helps me perform at a 5-star level in my role. It has significantly strengthened my knowledge and practice, particularly in areas such as planning, observations, and supporting children’s development. The learning is directly relevant to my day-to-day responsibilities as a Room Leader, allowing me to apply new strategies straight away. Overall, it has had a very positive impact on my confidence and effectiveness in the nursery.
