Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
In the six months I’ve been at Lee Marley, I’ve seen a big improvement in my numeracy skills through the constant measuring, calculating, and checking involved in my role. I’ve also strengthened my English and communication skills by writing professional emails and explaining my measurement and markup methods to colleagues.
These experiences have helped me feel more confident in my work and more capable in my role as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor. I can already see how much I’ve progressed, and I’m motivated to keep building on these foundations as I continue my apprenticeship.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?
My employer consistently helps me work towards my off‑the‑job training hours by teaching me new skills, exposing me to different aspects of the role, and giving me opportunities to apply what I’m learning at university. When I need additional time off for university commitments, he always makes sure I can take it so I don’t fall behind and can get the best learning experience possible.
Overall, the support I receive makes a huge difference—not only in my academic progress but also in my confidence and development as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor. It motivates me to keep improving and makes me feel valued as part of the team.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
In addition to this, I have both a skills reviewer and a personal tutor who I can contact whenever I have any concerns or need advice. My skills reviewer regularly checks my progress and provides useful feedback to help me stay on track. For example, when I needed to record more off‑the‑job training hours, they made me aware of it straight away so I could take action.
