Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at National Grid?
My experience at National Grid can be summed up as fantastic and fulfilling. The graduate scheme is conscientiously developed and tailored to help participants realize their full potential. Both soft and technical skills were focused on. The scheme rewards participation and excellence.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
The scheme is structured to give participant the opportunity to take up different roles in different part of the business. In my case, I retained the Project Manager role with a focus on different stages of project management. I witnessed and handled projects at development stage and then transitioning from development to delivery. Most importantly I worked on closing a project after it has been delivered. I was in effect able to experience a full life cycle of project management within National Grid.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
In every role/projects I worked at, I had the opportunity to handle specific elements, hence giving me the opportunity to contribute meaningfully. There is a sense of value and importance in what I have been asked to do since they directly affect the project.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
I think the package is fair considering the industry standard. I think the payment and benefit package is one of the best in the industry.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
I am at that stage where managing projects remains my only focus. I think I am set up for success.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
I received multi-layered support. My peers were the first line of support and then my buddy, team mates and then line manager. National Grid created a system of IT and HR support that made it easy to resolve queries while smoothening staff experience. I should add, these systems are constantly improving and innovating.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
Great flexibility in working location and mode. National Grid encourages a healthy work-life balance and promotes healthy life style while putting staff welfare at the heart of decision making. My line manager made sure I had all I needed to work from home with a balance of team events and meetings as the role demanded.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
The moment I join National Grid (interestingly same for everyone I know joined after me), I received support in navigating systems and setting my self up. There is a general feeling of you are not alone and we are here to help. There are many colleagues who will go out of their way to assist you. Team collaboration is top notch with a clear evidence of living the National Grid values - do the right thing, find a better way and make it happen.
How would you rate National Grid initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
How would you rate National Grid CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
There is a fantastic delivery style at work in National Grid in the area of CSR. We have a platform that provided me with the opportunity to contribute to the society in different capacity and form that I took advantage of. Additionally, during my 2nd placement, my project team, had a day out to clear vegetation and do some gardening activities for the community. Corporate social responsibility is also infused in project planning and delivery to ensure the community where our projects are situated directly benefit from the project.
