Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As an R&D Formulation Scientist, I develop and optimise skin‑cleansing formulations that deliver superior consumer benefits while meeting safety, regulatory and sustainability requirements. My day‑to‑day work involves designing experimental plans, preparing lab batches, and evaluating product performance through both instrumental and sensory testing. I translate consumer insights and technical challenges into practical formulation solutions, working closely with analytical scientists, packaging, regulatory, and supply chain teams to ensure product robustness from concept to scale‑up.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
My Level 4 Project Management course provides a strong foundation in the principles, tools and behaviours required to effectively plan, deliver and evaluate projects. The programme covers key topics such as project lifecycles, risk management, stakeholder engagement, budgeting, scheduling and resource planning. Throughout the course, I learn how to apply structured methodologies to break down complex work, define clear objectives and track progress using established project management techniques. Overall, the course is improving both my confidence and capability in leading projects, and it complements my technical role by helping me deliver work more strategically and efficiently.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have gained several new skills and strengthened existing ones through my Level 4 Project Management course and my role in R&D. I’ve developed a stronger understanding of project planning, risk management and stakeholder communication, which helps me manage technical projects more effectively. I’ve improved my organisation and time‑management skills by using tools like Gantt charts to structure work clearly. My communication and leadership abilities have also grown, particularly when coordinating cross‑functional teams or presenting updates. Overall, these skills have increased my confidence and improved how I plan, deliver and evaluate projects.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is generally well organised and structured, with a clear progression of learning that supports both theoretical understanding and practical application. The modules are delivered in a logical sequence, which makes it easier to build skills gradually and apply them to real project scenarios. The expectations for assignments, assessments and deadlines are communicated clearly, and there is good access to resources and support when needed. I also find that the balance between independent study, guided learning and workplace application is effective. Overall, the structure helps me stay focused, manage my workload and consistently apply what I’m learning.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a strong level of support from my employer throughout my programme. I’m given the time and flexibility needed to balance my learning with my day‑to‑day responsibilities, which makes it easier to stay on track. My manager and colleagues are also supportive, providing guidance, reviewing my work, and helping me apply project‑management concepts to real tasks. I have access to relevant resources, training opportunities and encouragement to develop my skills. Overall, the support I receive helps me progress confidently and ensures that what I’m learning is meaningful and directly beneficial to my role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a good level of support from my training provider while working towards my qualifications. The tutors are accessible and responsive, offering guidance whenever I need clarification or help with assignments. The learning materials are well‑structured, and regular check‑ins help me stay on track with deadlines and progression. I also appreciate the feedback provided on my work, as it clearly highlights strengths and areas to improve. Overall, the support is consistent and helps me feel confident in applying what I’m learning to both my studies and my role.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification has helped me perform better in my role in several meaningful ways. The structured project‑management tools and techniques I’ve learned—such as planning frameworks, risk assessment methods and stakeholder‑management approaches—have directly improved how I organise and deliver my work. I feel more confident leading projects, breaking down complex tasks and communicating progress clearly to my team.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
