Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role blends operational leadership, environmental management, public service, and statutory compliance. I ensure that:
Parks are clean, safe, and enjoyable
Cemeteries operate with dignity, accuracy, and legal compliance
Staff and contractors perform effectively
The public receives a high‑quality service
It’s a position with meaningful impact on both community wellbeing and essential services.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my role as Senior Parks and Cemetery Officer to a strong extent. The position gives me a clear sense of purpose, with a balance of meaningful public service and practical, varied day‑to‑day work. I take pride in maintaining high‑quality parks and ensuring cemetery services are delivered with dignity and professionalism.
I particularly enjoy the variety the role offers, from site inspections and improvement projects to working with colleagues, contractors, and members of the public. This mix keeps the job engaging and allows me to use both operational and problem‑solving skills.
The responsibility and trust placed in me are also key sources of satisfaction. Having ownership over decisions and being able to directly influence the quality of public spaces is rewarding.
While the role can be demanding at times, especially with the sensitive nature of cemetery work and the pressures of managing competing priorities, these challenges are balanced by the positive impact the work has on the community. Overall, the job remains fulfilling, purposeful, and something I take real pride in.

The apprenticeship has enhanced my understanding of management theory and how to apply it day‑to‑day, which has directly supported my role and improved how I support colleagues, contractors, and service users. Overall, the apprenticeship has added real value to my professional development and broadened the skill set I bring to the organisation.
