Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
On a day to day basis my job involves: managing and implementing changes to the designs of mechanical seals for customers if it is discovered that there is any performance issues with the mechanical seal supplied. my job also involves managing and implementing the designing of a full new mechanical seal based off customer requests and criteria that the seal will need to fulfill.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my training program at AESSEAL because no two days are the same. While the base task of conducting an Engineering Change happens every day, no two Engineering Changes are the same. This keeps the work interesting and helps to fight repetitiveness.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
From starting my job as a design engineer at AESSEAL, I have developed on my basic knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD). I am not proficient at CAD and can create complex parts and assemblies with little to no issues.
I have also developed my skills with using Microsoft Excel. I can now use Excel to create formulas to make doing certain aspects of my job easier, quicker and more reliable. For example, when raising an Engineering Change I have to do an impact analysis of the parts that will be undergoing the change to see what orders they have against them and how the change will effect other parts that they are related to. When checking the orders I have to count the list of every order that has been placed against the part and figure out if there are any outstanding orders. I have recently developed an excel sheet that does this for me by stripping all the data down into positive or negative numbers and finding the sum of them when the data is pasted into the sheet.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My apprenticeship program is well organised and structured. The first year consisted of being mainly at the AMRC Training Center doing blocks of courses.
Then, in the second year I am mainly located at AESSEAL, with one day a week at the AMRC Training Center.
In my third year, I will be fully at AESSEAL.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive all the needed support from my employer.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider sends out a tutor to my workplace to help me with working towards my qualifications. This tutor comes to my workplace roughly once a month.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualifications I received from the AMRC Training Center have helped me to preform better as a Customer Orders Designer at AESSEAL by teaching me generic CAD skills that I could then use to better my skills and knowledge of the specific type of CAD that I use at AESSEAL to design mechanical seals.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
At AESSEAL there are lots of opportunities to be involved in extra-curricular activities. In 2025 my company participated in the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge. We have work Christmas do's every year. The Customer Orders Design and Technical department also go out for meals after work quite often.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend AESSEAL plc to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend AESSEAL because no two days of work are the same.
I would also recommend AESSEAL because of how helpful every team is. It doesn't matter who you go to, everyone is willing to help the best they can.
The atmosphere at AESSEAL is pleasant and makes working here enjoyable.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AESSEAL plc?
When applying to AESSEAL make sure you know a bit about mechanical seals so you can mention things in your interview. My interview included arguing your point with the interviewer so make sure you're confident about what you're saying and can argue why you think that.
