Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Currently, I work in Digital Modelling and Simulation, solving issues and creating solutions for R&D teams across the business. This may be in the form of practical manufacture at lab/pilot plant or factory scale, or in the format of data analysis, virtual simulation, or coding.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I feel proud to be at Unilever. My managers make sure that I'm always pushing myself and trying new things whilst working to deliver a variety of projects.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
My people skills have significantly improved as I’ve had the opportunity to work with colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. In this rotation in particular, I’ve learned how to effectively support and bring new team members up to speed, something that I haven't had the opportunity to do previously.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The project structure is good, and I feel very well supported by my network, from fellow apprentices to graduates at a similar level, as well as supervisors who are genuinely invested in my development. Although there is always room to refine processes, I’m very pleased with the structure and support available to me at this stage.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
There is a high level of support, and I have a strong workplace network to help with any issues that may arise.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
There is reasonable support, and I am given a reasonable amount of time for my coursework (should I need it), and the University seems invested in my well-being as a student. However, I feel like sometimes there are a few efficiency issues, but these are normally resolved.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The apprenticeship helps me better understand the technical discussions in the workplace, especially since many of my mentors and colleagues have years of experience and advanced degrees. This can sometimes leave me feeling behind. However, once I complete the qualification, I expect to be much closer to their level of technical understanding and to feel more confident stepping into similar roles.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are multiple; I attend the run club and 'knit and natter'. However, there is also a choir, other sports and various site-wide events.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Unilever makes me feel valued as an apprentice and that my work is important to the well-being of the company and consumers.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
I would advise researching Unilever's history, who they'd be working with and their experience, what they'd be working on. The most important part would be to be honest and be yourself, as any other strategy will not be feasible in the long term.
