Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work with a team repairing, improving and maintaining National Grid Electricity Distribution’s underground cables and assets that are found in customers houses.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I love the programme it’s a good mix of being at the depot being hands on and helping out on site and being away at the training school or college.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I am learning new skills as my apprenticeship develops and it is structured well so that the learning is spaced out enough to get experience on what you’ve learnt previously before learning something new again.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is extremely well organised with all of my training and academic learning being prepared when I first started and I was given a plan with all of the training on for the next 3 years. And also when I’m back on site everything I do is tracked via an online assessment system.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Support at the company is amazing there’s always someone to reach out to whether it be inside the company or one of the many helpful online tools that the company pays for us employees to be able to use.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
There’s tons of support from the training school when we’re working towards our qualification as they work with us all the way through to ensure we are ready for our exams at the end.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The training school teaches everything we need to know the right way and tells us what we may see that’s wrong and how it’s wrong so I believe they help us really well perform better in our role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Sometimes there are team outings but these only happen once or twice a year.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend National Grid to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The company offers so much help and support through the apprenticeship and even afterwards they are still there to call if needed. And they support you through any issues you have regardless if they are work related or not.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to National Grid?
Be yourself, everyone at the company is welcoming you don’t need to be scared to not be yourself.
