Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
Some days are very site-focused and can be quite intense, involving inspections, assessments, and hands-on learning out on projects. Other days are more office-based, where I focus on writing reports, analysing findings, and developing my technical knowledge in a more structured environment.
Across the week, I work on a mix of different projects, which gives me exposure to a wide range of property types and working environments. This can include visiting sites across the UK, from commercial properties such as shops, offices, and warehouses to high-end residential buildings.
Overall, the role provides a great balance between practical, on-site experience and office-based work, and is helping me build a strong foundation of skills and knowledge within the industry.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
I especially enjoy the programme as it complements my role very well. As a visual learner, being able to apply what I learn in a practical, real-world setting really helps me understand concepts more effectively and reinforces my development.
Overall, I am really enjoying the programme and appreciate the opportunity it provides to grow both personally and professionally.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
From a technical perspective, I have improved my understanding of building construction, defects, and inspection processes, as well as developing my ability to produce clear and detailed reports.
I have also strengthened my communication skills, particularly when interacting with colleagues on site and in the office, and have become more confident in asking questions and contributing to discussions.
In addition, I have improved my time management and organisation skills by balancing site work, office tasks, and my learning commitments.
Overall, I feel I am continuously developing and becoming more confident in both the practical and professional aspects of the role.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?
The structure allows me to apply what I learn in a real working environment, which makes the learning more effective alongside my day-to-day role. I also have clear guidance on what is expected, which helps me stay on track with my development.
Everyone involved in the programme is very supportive, and I feel comfortable asking for help or guidance when needed, which has been really valuable for my progress.
At times, balancing work and study can be challenging, but this has also helped me improve my organisation and time management skills.
Overall, I feel the programme is set up in a way that supports my progression and development within the industry.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
I am encouraged to ask questions and take on new challenges, knowing that support is always available if needed. This creates a positive learning environment where I feel comfortable developing my skills.
Overall, the support I receive has been very valuable in helping me progress and get the most out of both my role and the programme.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
They are always approachable and willing to help if I have any questions or need clarification on course content. Regular check-ins and feedback have also been useful in monitoring my progress and identifying areas where I can improve.
Overall, the support from my training provider has been valuable in helping me stay organised, motivated, and confident in working towards my qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
Being able to apply what I learn in a practical setting really reinforces my understanding and improves my confidence when carrying out tasks. It also helps me produce more informed and accurate work, particularly when writing reports and analysing findings.
Overall, the qualification complements my role well and is playing an important part in developing both my technical knowledge and practical ability.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
