I have been challenged to work things out practically as well as been given some more mentally stimulating tasks.

It does the best it can for the work that we do here. I don't think a programme outside of AWE exists that would fully fit the bill. However, what has been thought does have some application.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Lot and lot of people have hobbies here and the social side of things is pretty good.

Why?
It's rewarding work and the time here can fly.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AWE?
Be your honest self and do your research of what it is that happens here and its history. I did not know everything in my interview but I did show enthusiasm and a willing to learn, behaviours are for difficult to teach compared to skills.
