Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Day to day i shadow different site managers on site and see what they do day to day. With this i get set tasks and responsibilities i must do every week for example progress pictures of the job. Each day is very different from the last as construction moves fast and one day i could be Filing RAMS next on site snagging works for example.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy it a lot and get lots of benefits from my company. so i never feel out of pocket going to places or doing training so they very much invest in our future.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Since starting i have learnt lots. At first I was shy to talk to trades or ask why are they doing this but as time went on my confidence has drastically increased and improved to the point where im going on site asking people questions and challenging them for their ppe for example.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
my programme is well organised and sorted so i know when ill be at university for this year. I have no problems logistically working out where i need to be each week and what ill be doing.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have my own mentor i can go to for advice but in general my support is great. i have lots of people i can safely speak to if i needed too but all of the site team are friendly and i wouldn't feel discouraged talking to any of them.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive lots of support by Kier. this can be through teams call or on site with my mentor. Sometimes the lessons at university can be difficult to follow but i can always go through with anyone at Sheffield hallum if i need help or my mentor when im back on site.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel like its giving me more industry knowledge whilst also teaching me site life and what i need to do after getting my qualifications. so this is helping me perform better
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are lots of events to go to and network whilst meeting new people and team members.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Kier Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They are a company that always strives for better and to become safer. Working with them for nearly half a year i can see that i will have a good supported career here where i have the options to change and get new experiences if i wanted to.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Kier Group?
I would recommended first getting work experience with kier or a another construction firm to see if you like construction and if its right for you.
