My current role is that of Airfield Planning Assistant. I ensure the delivery of safe, efficient and compliant Airfield Works In Progress at Manchester Airport. I also ensure aeordrome safeguarding standards are met.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

During my apprenticeship I had the opportunity to work within various critical operational areas such as; Landside Operations, Multi-Skilled Operative Teams, Security, Airfield Operations. I enjoyed some areas more than other but overall I really enjoyed the apprenticeship and it was critical in securing my current, full-time role with MAG.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

During my time as an Apprenticeship, I learnt hands-on and theoretical training, along-side real physical experience in operational areas, working closely with different operational teams.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

We were the first cohort of apprentices for this scheme, and therefore, at the start of the scheme it could have been better organised to ensure that we as apprentices were getting the most out of our times with the operational teams. As expected, there were some learning curves which I strongly believe that MAG will take on-board and improve for the next cohort of apprentices.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Throughout my apprenticeship, MAG supported me every step of the way - providing constant guidance and high-quality training that's equipped me in invaluable skills for my future career.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Trafford & Stockport College Group (TSCG) were a great learning partner for the apprenticeship, providing guidance and support whenever required.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

MAG delivered quality first party and third party training to help enhance my skills in Airfield Operations. Since the apprenticeship, I have moved into an Airfield Operations based role within Airfield Planning. Without my apprenticeship, I would not have been considered as an applicant for this role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

MAG provides volunteering opportunities and several networking events, including early talent networking events that allows young people starting their careers to meet like-minded people.

Why?
MAG are a great employer, who pay a fair wage and provide a great work-life balance with the opportunity for hybrid working and flexible working hours (office roles only). The airport is a truly lively place to work and it never gets boring. They pay a fair-wage and I couldn't be happier in my current role.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Manchester Airport Group?
Ensure that you are fully aware of what you are applying for. There are hundreds of different roles available in MAG from operational areas to Project Management. Once you work within MAG, the door is truly open to shape your career in whatever direction you want to go in.
