Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As an apprentice, I can't complain at all. I'm learning from some of the best and getting to look around different sites, seeing different sorts of production systems and processes, deep-diving, and seeing things that some people don't get the chance to.
Every day is a learning day, from recapping things from college to discovering new things.
Getting mentored by great and skilled engineers, which makes life easier, allowing you to shadow them whilst they teach you what a day is like for an engineer at Howdens.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I'm really happy here at Howdens, opportunities like these don't come often, and I'm glad to be a part of the Howdens family. The company itself is great, prioritising everyone's safety, and has a great community and set of staff that you can all get along with, learning more and more from engineers who are willing to teach you the things they do throughout the day.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Absolutlely! I think as an apprentice, that is major, and I can say that here at Howdens, all that I've learnt from college has been improved and reinforced, also learning a lot more skills that I hadn't before.
skills such as tool-handling, improved at problem solving, better teamwork, continuous learning, and technical skills in general, in both electrical and mechanical.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I believe its structured well, there is one department that i was placed in for 2 months that i thought wasnt needed and couldve been more productive if somewhere else, but other than that i think that 4 years is perfect, allowing to start my HNC also in a couple months time, which then ill be learning at work and being able to put what i learn into practice. I understand that this second year was about shadowing, but I do believe that experience is the best teacher, and that if going into the 3rd year, we could get tools to already become comfortable with them, as we will be preparing for EPA's.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I believe we get a lot of help and guidance to make sure were heading in the right direction, keeping u up to date with everything and aware of what's going on and what we need to do to improve.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, which is something I admire from Howdens. Many companies don't get the same treatment and activities as we do, which makes this company great. always rewarding their staff and having events that allow us to socialise more. For example, the other day I attended a go-karting activity they had set up after work, which was a lot of fun, and every end of the year, they hold a Christmas party, which I found really good.

Recommendations & Advice

Yes

Because with Howdens, you are looked after properly, a great company with great benefits that also rewards their staff. Prioritising your safety and making sure you leave the same way you came in, with a great community that allows you to create new bonds with many people.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Howdens?
Every day is a learning day, so be open-minded and learn as much as you can, getting to create new relationships as well to create a good environment with yourself and others.
