Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a PMO Manager, my role involves providing programme-level governance, structure, and assurance across complex projects. On a day-to-day basis, I lead the planning, mobilisation, and control of programmes by developing and maintaining delivery plans, ensuring clear milestones, dependencies, and reporting mechanisms are in place.
I work closely with programme and delivery managers, subject matter experts, and senior stakeholders to support effective decision-making, manage risks and issues, and ensure delivery remains aligned to strategic objectives. This includes managing RAID logs, supporting procurement and mobilisation activity, preparing governance and SteerCo updates, and continuously improving processes, tools, and ways of working to strengthen delivery confidence and transparency.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy working on the programme as it provides meaningful exposure to complex, organisation-wide delivery and allows me to directly apply and develop my programme management and governance skills. The work is challenging and varied, particularly in balancing structure, stakeholder engagement, and delivery pressures, which I find professionally rewarding.
The programme also offers opportunities to continuously improve ways of working, influence delivery outcomes, and build strong working relationships across teams, which contributes positively to my overall engagement and motivation.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Through my apprenticeship, I have developed and strengthened a range of skills, particularly in programme governance, planning, and stakeholder management. I have built my capability to structure complex programmes, develop clear and auditable delivery plans, and apply effective controls such as RAID, change management, and assurance reporting in line with PMO standards and best practice.
The apprenticeship has also supported the development of my technical and digital skills, particularly through the practical application of tools such as Microsoft Planner, Smartsheet, Excel, and PowerPoint to support programme delivery and reporting. In addition, I have strengthened my communication, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills through regular collaboration with delivery managers, subject matter experts, and senior leaders, enabling me to support informed decision‑making and maintain alignment across complex programmes.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is well organised and structured, with clear phases, milestones, and governance arrangements in place to support effective delivery. Activities are planned and tracked against defined timelines, with clear ownership, dependencies, and reporting mechanisms to ensure progress is monitored and managed appropriately.
Programme controls such as RAID management, change control, and regular reporting are embedded within delivery, providing transparency and supporting timely decision‑making. The structure has been developed to be both robust and flexible, allowing the programme to respond to change while maintaining alignment with strategic objectives and PMO standards.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a good level of support from my employer throughout my apprenticeship. This includes support from my line manager and wider team, regular opportunities to apply learning directly within my role, and access to the tools, systems, and information required to carry out my work effectively.
Time and space are provided to balance apprenticeship requirements alongside day‑to‑day responsibilities, and I am encouraged to reflect on learning and apply new knowledge and skills in practice. Feedback and guidance from managers and colleagues also support my development and progression within the role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive good support from my training provider while working towards my qualification. This includes structured learning sessions, clear guidance on apprenticeship requirements, and access to learning resources to support my development. The training provider is responsive when support or clarification is needed and provides regular check‑ins to review progress and ensure learning remains on track.
Feedback is provided on assignments and evidence submitted, which supports reflection and continuous improvement. Overall, the support helps me balance workplace learning with academic requirements and apply learning effectively within my role.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification supports me well in performing more effectively in my role by providing underpinning knowledge that complements my practical experience. The learning reinforces key principles of programme management, governance, planning, and assurance, which I am able to apply directly to my day‑to‑day responsibilities.
Through the qualification, I have gained a stronger understanding of best practice frameworks and structured approaches, which has improved the quality and consistency of my planning, reporting, and stakeholder engagement. This has increased my confidence when supporting senior stakeholders, applying controls, and making informed decisions. Overall, the qualification adds value by strengthening both my technical knowledge and my professional judgement within my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are opportunities to get involved in extra‑curricular and wider organisational activities, including professional networking events, knowledge‑sharing sessions, and internal forums or working groups. These provide opportunities to connect with colleagues outside of immediate delivery teams and to learn from wider organisational experience.
While social and informal activities are available, particularly on an ad‑hoc or team basis, the professional development and networking opportunities are the most valuable, as they support collaboration, engagement, and continuous learning alongside day‑to‑day work.
