Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I have gained a vide variety of experience working for mace consult. Working within 2 different sectors has given me a wide overview of different project / programme types. I'm given my own responsibilities and take ownership of tasks during all project stages from feasibility through to handover. I work on a client site 2x per week with 1 night stay over to reduce the burden of the travel and make it sustainable over time. Day to day, i walk around site, checking up on my projects and updating stakeholders, I attend regular meetings and pull together a variety of pieces of work such as procurement items. I update the cost plans, programmes and reports monthly. 1 day a week i study for my university degree and next year i will be starting my RICS chartership journey as part as the programme. Mace Consult encourages networking both within and outside of the company, so i attend events to learn new things and meet new people.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy working at mace consult. I think a lot of this is down to my team. Both teams within the 2 different sectors i've worked in have been very supportive, friendly making it a very positive work environments.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
If i compare where i started at the beginning of my programme to now, ive learnt a massive amount. From completing structured training at university, APM and Mace development sessions, to onsite learning. I've attended power-bi workshops, learnt how to use multiple different data management systems and worked on both NEC and JCT contracts. I've used different risk analysis systems, Learnt how to make programmes on both project and P6. Being on site, i have widened my technical knowledge on aspects such as Electrical systems, AHUs, ventilation. I have always been someone who is quite open and chatty, however i think my soft skills have developed through the attendance and contributions to meetings.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is aligned to the RICS Chartership pathways. Therefore our targets and work is aimed in the direction of chartership. This aligns work, study and chartership.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
All the line managers that i have had (3) have been very supportive and focused on my development. My previous ones still keep intouch to make sure im doing okay.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I have a meeting with someone from the university every 3 months to track progress, set targets and check up on how i'm doing. As for support, I can't really comment as i haven't had any issues, so haven't had to use the university for support. Regarding university work, theres a forum in each week where i can ask questions and the course lecturer responds.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I think the studying is very applicable to my role. I was worried that they wouldn't overlap, but theres lots of elements such as how to use costing software / legislations that are useful in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Apprentices go down to London, there are mace internal social days. Speaking for the Northern Region, we have a quartly Padel social, there are regular social events after work such as st patricks day. There is often lunch in the office and there's an internal networking group for those who are just starting their career, these sessions are held monthly (i think). Its a nice way to see my fellow apprentices and grads as we are all working on different projects.
